Mission Video
Convergent Research needed video content to introduce funders and founders to their work building Focused Research Organizations (FROs) — nonprofit startups designed to create the essential scientific infrastructure that neither academia nor industry will build — which meant translating abstract, high-stakes concepts into emotionally resonant and personal 2–3 minute films.
Filming took place in genuinely tight quarters —a small cabin at AutoCamp — limiting depth, scale, and traditional production flexibility. The team leaned into it: textured backdrops were placed intentionally within the frame with their edges and supports visible, transforming a logistical limitation into a visual metaphor. Just as FROs expose and reinforce the hidden scaffolding of science, the shoot revealed the construction of the image itself.
The result was conversational, interview-driven films structured around key tension points in Convergent’s work against a distinctive, honest visual aesthetic.
